Summer is a great time to add something new into your life. The weather is nice, your energy is high, and everything just seems more fun. What would make a new activity even greater? If it also helps you better yourself!
Improve your thinking, expand your knowledge, and test your skills with these fun self-improvement activities to start this summer…
Start a blog. I have to admit – when I started this blog two years ago, I didn’t know anything about blogging! Web design, SEO, social media, and everything else that comes along on this journey was a whole new world for me. But, it was the perfect opportunity for me to learn new things.
Another part of blogging that I love is that you can take it as seriously as you want to. You want to post twice a week and treat it like a business? Go for it. You want to post once a month and only share it with your family and friends? That’s awesome too. It’s all up to you!
Write a book. With so many self-publishing options out there, writing your own book doesn’t seem so far-fetched anymore. Organize your knowledge and creativity and let your writing skills shine. Whether it’s a juicy romantic novel or a short and sweet self-help piece, take on the process this summer and see what you come up with!
Brush up your knowledge. When was the last time you read something about history? Or science? Probably high school, right? Just because you’re out of school doesn’t mean you should stop learning! Pick up a book, watch the History Channel or National Geographic, or maybe dig up your old textbooks. You might even learn something you never learned in the classroom!
I have been reading The Bedside Baccalaureate, which is a compilation of 18-page summaries covering a variety of topics, from The Civil War to Buddhism to alternative energies. It’s a little bit of everything!
Read the classics. This is something that is on my personal to-do list. What makes the classics so classic? Don’t you want to see for yourself?! Try to knock off as many of the All-Time 100 Novels this summer as you can!
Create a scrapbook. I tried this a couple years ago and quickly realized it was a lot more work than I thought it was! Every page has it’s own design and requires a lot of thought, time, and creativity. Spend your free moments this summer creating a scrapbook either for your own safe-keeping or as a gift for someone special.
Upcycle something. Why recycle when you can upcycle?! Give an old piece of furniture, clothing, or other household item new life by repurposing it into something else or something prettier! Pinterest is the ultimate destination for upcycling and DIY ideas so I have no doubt that you can find something that will catch your eye on there.
Here’s my upcycling project from a couple summers ago!
Practice a new skill. One philosophy I stand by is that it is never too late to learn something new! What makes it even easier is that the Internet is filled with information, tutorials, and learning resources to help you. Have you thought about learning to code? Bake? Play chess? Do yoga? The possibilities are endless!
If you’re not ready to start something completely new then maybe a few small things might be easier to take on. That’s why I include mini to-do lists in my weekly newsletter, Glamorously You. Does that sound a little less intimidating?😉
